Sherpa Villages

Amid the splendid mountains, sherpa villages dot the entire Tibetian frontier to include Khumjung, Khimde, and Nauche (Namche Bazar).  Not surprisingly, like the Nepalese people, the Sherpa communities are quite hospitable and eager to help you.  Children run circles around you!  A tourist can view the splendid mountain range of Nepal from any sherpa village and admire the beauty of  theTaboche, Amail Doblong, Tramaserka and Kang Taiga.

The Nepalese People

The nepalese people are an incredibly friendly people.   I was in awe when I first arrived in Kathmandu from India and found the people to be very open and friendly regardless of status.    They smiled all the time and were not at all suspicious of foreigners. 

Nepal is full of temples of which Pashupatinathi (Hindu) and Bodnath (Buddhist) are prominent.  The lamas and monks live in monastaries. 

Although the literacy rate is still way below international standards, the people are a highly philosophical society who emphasize eductaion.  By tradition, the nepalese honor teachers whom they consider are the intellectuals. 

Kathmandu is a very romantic city - tourists love it.

Mount Machapuchare

When you land by plane in Pokhara, on a clear day, the Annapurna Himal range spreads across the horizon - it is an awesome view.  Machapuchare has its tip shaped like a fishtail (macha means fish); hence the name stuck.

While you're in Pokhara,  you may visit the many local restaurants of which my favourite was always the small wayside food shops serving delicious fish curry with rice! 

Visit Tiger Mountain

Mr. AV Jim Edwards was the pioneer (RIP) of Tiger Tops.  It is now famously known as Tiger Mountain Himalayan River Exploration. It is touted for its outstanding record in maintaining incredible safety standards for tourists and focuses on river rafting trips and fishing as well as organizes jungle expeditions not unlike those in Africa but features are tropical in nature due to the hot, wet summers. The tourist receives directions from well-trained guides to explore all avenues if he/she wishes. The river rafting trips are enjoyed in the Seti (white) and Trisuli (3) rivers which provide unbelievable water force for excitement and enjoyment while providing one with a significant physical workout!

Jim was a family friend and was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed.

Pokhara is also a very attractive spot to visit while you are in Nepal. I, am a Gurkha descendant from the hills close to Pokhara.

Kathmandu International Airport

Infrastructure in Nepal is improving. Even though Nepal is infamously called the lonely planet, it's progressing by leaps and bounds. The airport is able to process all tourists easily but the road communications are largely used by the majority of the people.

Some of the many flights in and out of Kathmandu include destinations to cities like New Delhi, Bangkok, and Singapore.

Kathmandu is home to many embassy residents.

Home to the Sherpa

Nepal is considered home not only to the Nepalese people who are very diverse in ethnicity but is also home to other ethnic people, such as the Sherpas. This country is considered the gateway to the Himalayas. It ranges in beauty from the foothills to the mountains - from the plains of the Terai in the south to Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) in the north. The climate in Nepal also varies from the plains to the hills. It depends on which time of the year, you are traveling. It can get hot and humid in the summer; rain in the middle of summer, and it snows in the Himalayas. No one can ignore the beauty of Nepal.

Nepal was made famous by the conquest of Mount Everest by mountaineer explorers Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand's Sir Edmund Hillary. The nepalese people demonstrate a variety of features culture and religion. For example, the Gurkhas are hindus while the sherpas practice Buddhism.
