Pokhara - Nepal

Upon watching the a travel/information video recently, I'm consumed with nostalgia for the days when I was young, flying (Royal Nepal Airlines) as an air hostess. We flew daily to many parts of Nepal including Pokhara (the land of my forefathers; I am a Gurung). Our 28-seater DC3 would make a rough landing on the dirt and gravel air strip. Now, Lake Phewa is the biggest tourist attraction (in those days 1964 too). If you've picked up a travel tour guide or a pamphlet, you will see that there are numerous travel guides to include hiking, trekking, boating and fishing; even paragliding. Back in those days, there were no restaurants nor hotels. If the weather was bad, we got grounded. The crew to include Captain Upadhaya and co-pilot Captain ML Singh, would spend the night with locals who would provide a simple dinner of chicken curry and rice. We did the best we could to get through the night until morning when we could fly back to Kathmandu. Now, in this day and age, tourists are provided luxurious hotels (even cheaper motels), tours in an SUV, etc. So visit Nepal, and of all popular destinations, Pokhara is my favorite not only because I'm a native but it does offer a lot to the tourist. It is Summer in Nepal

Kathmandu and surrounding areas will receive a lot of rain during these summer months. As you will probably be sightseeing and hiking, you may need a really good shampoo to maintain healthy, shiny, glossy hair.
